OPTECH LiDARs in Power line industry. OPTEN experience

Since 1997 and it's first ALTM1020, OPTEN Moscow is focusing on LiDAR in Transmission Line industry. For 15 years we have owned and operated a number of LiDAR systems. Every new model provided new capabilities and helped us to expand our product line. We have started from updating obsolete paper drawings and installing Fibre Optic Cables that go inside the Earthing wire. Than LiDAR technology helped us in building PLS-CADD models, detecting clearance issues, calculating thermal ratings, updating vegetation management plans and falling tree maps. For instance, our new ALTM ORION C300 made possible LiDAR for distribution lines that have relatively thin wires and small poles/towers. We detect tilted poles of the distribution lines that often serve as a warning sign. It shows that this section of line may collapse during the next big storm. Regardless of the ALTM model, one should plan for certain data acquisition and processing stages. These steps ensure delivery of engineering-grade line models to Transmission System Companies. Presentation will explain these steps, show examples of the results and illustrate how it helps in meeting Customer goals.
